In response to news around the world Iceland Holidays has decided to inform its clients with facts from local news reports and up-to-date research. This information’s will be updated with new information whenever needed.
Eruption has stopped!
It seems that the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull volcano has stopped. Scientists are though not ready to confirm the end of activity until after the weekend. It seems to have been more or less quiet since last weekend but previous experience
have made them cautious regarding statements.
There is absolutely no signs of any unrest in the area or in any other volcanoes at the mom
Some have been speculating that neighbouring Katla volcano will follow with a much bigger eruption. According to geologist Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson there are no signs at all that it’s happening. And even if it does then it would not necessarily create more problems than the current eruption. The floods will be much bigger, but the only damage would be on roads and bridges. Problems regarding volcanic ash are unusually big now because the ash from the current eruption is very fine and therefore travels very easily both high and far. Another factor is that volcanic ash in Iceland is more likely to travel north than south. We have just been witnessing unusually strong winds towards the south lately.
But, as stated earlier; there are no scientific indications at all pointing towards Katla eruption in near future, only speculations.
